The Krewe of Bacchus was founded in 1968 and is the first of the innovative "super krewes" that began parading in the late 20th century.  "Super Krewes" are designated as such because of their large floats, large memberships, and their celebrity monarchy.  Because they are also more recently founded, the super krewes are generally more open than the traditionally exclusive krewes.
